Audio version of Robin Hood and the Caliph’s Gold is nigh

A lot of people have been asking me about this. And now I can proudly announce that Audible are bringing out the audiobook version of Robin Hood and the Caliph’s Gold on November 1st, 2020. That is, on Sunday! And there is even some sort of deal that means you can listen to it for free!

The book has been surprisingly successful, in a moderate way, and I have been really pleased by the continued enthusiasm for my Robin and Alan tales. So much so that there is another one – Robin Hood and the Castle of Bones – coming out very soon. But I’m also very happy that they got Mike Rogers to do the narration for Caliph’s Gold. He has done several of my Robin Hood books and by all accounts he is absolutely excellent at his job.

I say “by all accounts” because I have never actually listened to one of my own books. I tried listening to Outlaw, on cassette, which shows you how long ago that was, and I had to stop the tape after just a few minutes because I couldn’t bear to hear it. The flaws seemed to me to be so glaring, so egregious, that it was horribly embarrassing. Clumsy phrases, poorly expressed idioms, stupid similes . . .

I’m not saying that my more recent books are like that – every author has to learn their craft, and I hope I have become a much better as a writer over the years. But listening to that old-fashioned cassette tape back in the day was torture, and I haven’t been brave enough to try it again since.

Anyway, I hope that won’t stop you ordering Robin Hood and the Caliph’s Gold via Audible – and you can pre-order by the way – or prevent you buying this spoken version when it comes out in a day or so. Here’s the link.

There are any umber of actors and actresses that will tell you they don’t watch their own recorded performances for the same reason… I don’t even like listening to y recorded answer phone greeting! :o) Looking forward to Castle of Bones..
