Robin Hood and the Heretic Prince: The End

I have just typed “The End” at the bottom of the first draft of Robin Hood and the Heretic Prince. There is still a lot of work to do on the book – I have to edit it, polish it, add a bit more colour and description to the bare bones of the story, commission a great cover for it, and publish it on Amazon – but another one of my historical fiction novels actually exists in the world and that is a FANTASTIC feeling!

Outlaw - Angus Donald

This will novel will be the 11th book in the Outlaw Chronicles, which began with Outlaw (cover above) in 2009, a successful series about a gangster-ish Robin Hood and his loyal side-kick the musician and swordsman Alan Dale. The Heretic Prince takes place (mostly) in what is now the south of France during the beginning of the Albigensian Crusade. Robin, Alan, Little John and Co are caught up in the brutal religious warfare of the time, and the attempt by the military forces of Pope Innocent III to root out and destroy a whole southern European culture which they believed was infected by “heresy”. This was the culture of the Languedoc, the birthplace of troubadours and chivalry, and songs idealising courtly love. They wrote lovely poems in the Languedoc but were no match for the brutal, battle-hardened knights from the north of France. And – WARNING!!! – there is a lot of violence in this historical adventure novel.

Anyway, I hope you will all like it. I plan to publish it in late June – I have to get my skates on since I have another novel to write by October – and The Heretic Prince will join two other self-published novels of mine in the Outlaw Chronicles series, Robin Hood and the Caliph’s Gold (cover above) and Robin Hood and the Castle of Bones (cover below). More information and ways to pre-order the book will be coming soon but I just wanted to let you all know – the long wait for my next Robin Hood novel is very nearly over.

NB, if Robin Hood is not your bag, how about King Arthur? The Broken Kingdom (A King Arthur tale – plus dragons) is now available as an eBook, paperback and audio book. And I have a brand new historical series starting in August about Templars and Mongols – follow link here to pre-order your copy of Templar Traitor: The true story of Englishman who fought for Genghis Khan.
