The Saxon Wolf hits 1,000 reviews!

This is an excellent start to 2023 – the second book in my Fire Born series (aka The Saxon Wolf) has just reached 1,000 reader reviews on the Amazon website! Even though the Amazon folk have made it easier for readers to give reviews in recent years, this feels like a significant landmark. So it’s a happy new year for me!

If you haven’t been paying attention, The Saxon Wolf is an epic historical novel about two Viking heroes Bjarki Bloodhand and Tor Hildarsdottir, who join the pagan natives in Saxony (north Germany) in resisting the inexorable advance of the Christian legions of (the future Emperor) Charlemagne in the late 8th century AD. Bjarki has become a berserkr, an elite frenzied fighter who summons the spirit of a bear to give him strength in battle – see The Last Berserker (Fire Born 1) – but he discovers that turning into a blood-crazed and near-invincible killing-machine can have its downsides. Surprise! He fears he will go completely mad like his father and begin slaughtering all the people he loves. Tor, his shield maiden companion, meanwhile, has fallen in love with someone quite unsuitable. It’s all likely to end very badly.

Anyway, if you like Viking adventure novels, and haven’t read any of the Fire Born series yet, start with The Last Berserker (FB1), continue with The Saxon Wolf (FB2), and if you are still not satisfied, check out The Loki Sword (Fire Born 3), which came out last summer. I’m working on Fire Born 4 just now (working title King of the North), which will be out Summer 2023. That’s all for now – and happy new year to you too!
