Gates of Stone: mapping an imaginary world

I am very excited to be able to show you the map of the world I created in my forthcoming fantasy novel Gates of Stone, which will be published in February 2019 under the pseudonym Angus Macallan. This is the first book in the Lord of the Islands series and I hope there will be many more.

Fantasy set in an alternate Indonesia

As many of you know, it’s a fantasy world that bears more than a slight resemblance to Indonesia. The idea for the book stems from my fieldwork as an anthropologist in Bali in the late 1980s, when I studied the local magic and witchcraft for my dissertation. The warm tropical ocean around which most of the action takes place is called the Laut Besar, which is Indonesian for “great sea”. The real island of Java has become Jawa, and Bali has been rendered as Taman, which translates as “garden”.

Cover display at New York Comic Con

My US publisher is already promoting the book and here is a picture of the team at their stand at New York Comic Com earlier this year. The lovely lady on the left is Alexis Nixon, who is doing the publicity for the book, and cover of Gates of Stone is behind one of her colleagues from corporate.

If you want to you can pre-order Gates of Stone from Amazon by clicking here.
